LI Ling is the professor of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Peking University. He is also the Distinguished Humanities Chair Professor and the academician of American Academy of Arts and Science. From 1977 to 1983, he took part in the research on the inscriptions on Bronze in the Institute of Archaeology, CASS. During this time, he studied the bronzes of the Shang and Zhou Dynasty for a master’s degree under the instruction of Zhenglang Zhang. And he joined the archaeology team of Fengxi from 1982 to 1983. From 1983-1985, he studied the land system in the pre-Qin period in Institutes of agricultural economy, CASS. Since 1985, he has been teaching in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Peking University. His research interest covers archaeology, paleography, archeography, art history, military history, history of Fang Shu, intellectual history and historical geography. His book publications include “A Homeless Dog, Li Ling’s Understanding of Confucius”, “Bamboo Silk Manuscripts and Academic Origins”, “Our Classics” and so on.
