YAO Zelin, born in Zhoushan, Zhejiang in 1982. He received his doctoral degree in Sociology from the University of Hong Kong in 2012. He joined East China Normal University in 2013, currently serves as an associate professor of School of Social Development. His main research areas are sociology of occupations and medical sociology. He is interested in the topics of China’s healthcare system transformation, public hospital reform, primary care, doctor-patient relationship, and occupational ethics. He has published a dozen papers on Sociological Studies, Chinese Journal of Sociology, Journal of Public Management, etc., and got reprinted by Chinese Social Science Digest, and China Social Science Excellence multiple times. He translated Viviana A. Zelizer’s Morals and Markets, and The Social Meaning of Money. In 2017, he published a monograph titled Between Interests and Morality: A Sociological Analysis of Professional Autonomy of Urban Doctors in Contemporary China, which is selected as one of the Chinese Sociological Association Annual Book Recommendations.
