Andrew Abbott is a Gustavus F. and Ann M. Swift Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago. He was the Master of the Social Science Division at the University of Chicago, a Visiting Fellow of Nuffield College at Oxford, the Director of the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago, the Chief Editor of the American Journal of Sociology, and the President of the Social Science History Association. In 2001, Abbott received the degreed of Docteur Honoris Causa of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
