GUO Yongbing studied at the Department of Chinese Language and Literature and the Department of History of Fudan University from 1998 to 2007. Since 2007, he has been teaching at the Institute of Unearthed Documents and Ancient Chinese Characters of Fudan University. From 2005-2017, he worked as the academic assistant to Professor QIU Xigui. His research interest includes philology and ancient Chinese characters, especially the unearthed documents during the Warring States Period and the Qin and Han Periods.
