SAKAMOTO, Hiroko is an Honorary Professor at Hitotsubashi University and the Director of the Japan Association of Modern China. Her main research is to analyze how Chinese ideology changes in modern times by perspectives of nations, classes and genders. She attached importance to the research on the effect of modern Buddhism on the modern intellectual creation and the formation of national consciousness, and the modern gender problems. She has served as the Director and the Chairman of the Modern China Academy of Japan and the Academy of Chinese Sociality and Culture (Tokyo, Japan), and a Senator of The Sinological Society of Japan. She has also served since 2013 as the Academic Adviser of the Department of Social History, and the Editorial Board Member of Modern Chinese Intellectual History of the Department of Intellectual History in the Institute of Modern History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
