YIN Jinan is a Professor of Chinese art history, Doctoral Supervisor, and Executive Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Paintings and Calligraphy of the Palace Museum. He graduated from the Department of History of Peking University majoring in archeology in 1982. From 1984 to 1987, he was a graduate student at the Department of Art History, Central Academy of Fine Arts. In 1993, he became a postgraduate supervisor in ancient Chinese painting and calligraphy appraisal entrusted by the State Cultural Relics Bureau. Since 2018, he has been a State Council Special Allowance Expert. His major works include Knocking on the Door Alone: A Close Look at the Mainstream Arts in Contemporary China (1993), A Close Look at Culture and Fine Arts in Contemporary China (2002).
